Still Lives

When we first met you shook and blushed

Your heart, it beat, your blood, it rushed

I took your hand, you took my heart

Skin swore that it would never part

We swore we would not fall apart

You smile though you grow more tense,

Without a thought, and lacking sense,

At touches blanch, your color spills.

The next day you were cold and still

Ignored me; you ignore me still.

As time goes by, it softly grows;

Like breath escapes your mouth and nose.

You open yourself up; your eyes

Still staring, each lash forwards flies;

Forgive me, darling, time still flies.

Your face has darkened, still you grin;

You’re melting in my arms again;

Aglow with warmth, with growth so rife;

So soft, you seem so full of life;

You seem, and seeming’s more than life.

Your eyes so big, your smile so wide,

Your hair so fair, your face uneyed,

You lie there still; still I’m bereft

You’ve been picked clean, but were you left?

I’m not quite sure you haven’t left.
